I’ve been hyping 2 fighting games this year, and no, neither of them is Street Fighter IV (shocking?). These two games, Super Smash Bros. and Soul Calibur, have been my 2 favorite fighting franchises for the longest time. Both sequels, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Soulcalibur IV, are slated to be released this year. Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be released on March 9th (used to be Feb. 10th but I’ll get to that later) and Soulcalibur IV will be released this second quarter, according to GameSpot.

Both games have had their fair share of “WTFs” throughout the past month. I’ll start out with Soulcalibur IV. You may already know this, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple weeks or too busy playing Halo 3 on Xbox Live (if it’s still working), Yoda and Darth Vader from Star Wars have recently been confirmed as playable characters in SCIV. I thought Snake in Brawl was odd enough but Star Wars?

To be honest, I was never was interested in Star Wars. Never read the books, never watched the movies, etc. I seriously hope Soulcalibur IV doesn’t pull off an Assassin’s Creed and becomes some sci-fi adventure because that would just kill the franchise for me, well, storyline-wise. The gameplay should still be solid, though.

Now onto Super Smash Bros Brawl… hahaha! “Hai guys!! i have a friend who works at Nintendo and I have leaked informat-” SHUT UP. Wow… if you’ve been involved in the Smash Bros community as much as I have during the past few weeks, you’d know there’s been a lot of “prophet” BS going around… and it’s getting really annoying. If you have information on the game, then leak it. I’d love to know. If you don’t, then don’t say anything. I’d rather not know anything about Brawl before the release date then be told lies.

Speaking of the release date, back in October 07, Brawl was pushed back from Dec. 3rd, 2007 to Feb 10th this year. I was ok with that. I soon got used to it. But that didn’t stop Nintendo from delaying it again. Brawl’s new release date is March 9th. March freekin 9th. You may not know this but I’m a huge Smash Bros fanboy so this news is obviously going to get me frustrated. If you think otherwise, your obviously not much of a fanboy as me. I got used to it about 10 minutes after reading the notice. It just sucks to have to wait a month longer.

Also, Sheik was recently confirmed! There’s been speculation going around that Zelda will be her own character and Sheik was going to be cut, or be a separate character all together, considering Zelda is using her Twilight Princess model and Sheik isn’t in Twilight Princess. This didn’t stop Sakurai from adding Sheik as Zelda’s transformation, though. I mained both Zelda and Sheik, along with Dr. Mario, in Melee so this is great news.

Well, that about wraps it up. We’re only 16 days in the year and crazy stuff is already happening. It makes you wonder just what’s going to happen next…
